Michael Jackson – Dirty Diana
Background
Mike Jackson recorded a song called “Dirty Diana” in the 1980s. Jackson’s seventh studio album, Bad, features this track as the fifth track. A single version of the song was released by Epic Records on April 12, 1988. The song has a hard rock sound similar to “Beat It” from Thriller (1982) and a guitar solo played by Steve Stevens. Jackson is the author and co-producer of “Dirty Diana,” and Quincy Jones is the producer. The lyrics of the song are about groupies. The tempo of “Dirty Diana” is moderate, and its key is G minor.
While “Dirty Diana” received mixed reviews from contemporary music critics, it was a commercial success worldwide in 1988, charting at No. 1 on the United States Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, the song charted within the top ten in multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and New Zealand. After Jackson’s death in June, the song reentered the charts, mainly due to digital download sales. 1988 saw the release of a music video for “Dirty Diana” filmed live for an audience.
Music video
The video was directed by Joe Pytka and produced by Larry Stessel. In March 1988, Long Beach, California, was the setting for the music video. At the second World Music Awards held on April 14, 1989, it was named the “Number-One Video in the World”. You can find it on the DVD albums Number Ones, Michael Jackson’s Vision, and the Target version of Bad 25.
Lisa Dean, the model featured in the video, was selected over hundreds of other girls who auditioned for the role.
Live performance video
The second video of a live performance was filmed in front of a live audience during Jackson’s Madison Square Garden show in 1988. “Pepsi Presents Michael Jackson Tour 1988” appears on the screen for forty seconds against a white background. Jackson performs in front of an audience with the only light source being blue lights after showing a black screen. While singing and dancing, Jackson wears a white button down shirt, black pants, and metal and leather belts on his pants. Between Jackson’s performances from a distance, there are clips of him performing up-close while singing into a microphone, as well as clips of Jennifer Batten performing behind him. Jackson then begins dancing and singing with the woman before walking down the catwalk and dancing near guitarist Steve Stevens. Jackson’s performance is shown from a distance again, and the video ends with the lights turning blue as he finishes his performance.
Darias Version
It’s safe to say that Michael Jackson is the King of Pop. Several beautiful songs have been released by this extraordinary musician. Daria decided to cover “Dirty Diana”. It’s an excellent cover. Despite the fact that Daria don’t measure up to Michael’s performance. Michael is the biggest star in the world for a reason. It is unlikely that Daria will ever be world star.
