Please Come Home for Christmas

In 1960, American blues singer and pianist Charles Brown released “Please Come Home for Christmas” as a Christmas song. A Billboard Hot 100 hit in December 1961, the track, which Brown wrote with Gene Redd, peaked at #76. During nine seasons it topped the Christmas Singles chart, including 1972. It incorporates many characteristics of Christmas music, such as multiple references to the Christmas season and Christmas traditions, as well as an opening sound reminiscent of church bells, created by using tubular bells. Incipit sometimes referred to as “Bells Will Be Ringing”. Numerous artists have covered the song, including the Eagles in 1978.
