BILLY IDOL – REBEL YELL
The song “Rebel Yell” was written and performed by English rock musician Billy Idol. Originally released as the album’s lead single on 24 October 1983, it is the title track of his 1983 album of the same name.
In the US, the single peaked at No 46. The single didn’t chart in the UK Top 40 until 1985 when it was re-released at No 6. Based on a public vote in 2009, VH1 named the song the 79th best hard rock song of all time, although the song did not appear on the revised list from 2013.
Composition and lyrics
Idol mentioned that he had attended an event where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones took swigs from a bottle of “Rebel Yell” bourbon whiskey. Though he was unfamiliar with the brand, he liked the name and decided to write a song about it. Guitarist Steve Stevens contributed to the song’s composition.
It sounds like an electric guitar and an electronic keyboard combined, but Stevens performs the instrumental introduction alone on guitar, as he intended it to sound. Stevens mentions that the acoustic guitar style of Leo Kottke inspired him.
Darias Version
With Rebel Yell, Daria Zaritskaya has created a beautiful new version of the hit by Billy Idol. The original was released in 1983. Another amazing achievement by the young woman from Kiev, who once again shows her incredible voice.
