Soldier of Fortune – Deep Purple

Deep Purple’s ballad Soldier of Fortune was released on their 1974 album Stormbringer. Musicland Studios in Munich recorded Soldier of Fortune in August 1974, but it was never released as a single. This song stands out among the album’s songs.

Live Performances

Deep Purple performed the song live during the Come Taste the Band tour in late 1975, and included it on the album Last Concert in Japan, released after the band split up.

Remakes and covers

Soldier of Fortune was first performed by ex-Deep Purple singer David Coverdale with his band Whitesnake in the early 1980s. Over the years, the song became increasingly common in their live performances, on compilations, best-of albums, and finally a cover version on The Purple Album. Since its release, Soldier of Fortune has appeared on many Deep Purple compilations and best-of albums. In addition to Opeth and Black Majesty, other covers include Blackmore’s Night (on the live album Past Times with Good Company) and Rainbow (on their album Ghost Reveries). Glenn Hughes performed the song at the Royal Albert Hall in 2014 as part of the Sunflower Jam in remembrance of Deep Purple organist Jon Lord (Celebrating Jon Lord).

Darias Cover

Another awesome acoustic cover by Daria and her boyfriend Sergey. She once again demonstrates her dream voice. Enjoy this great song.
